My doctoral research examines how Black queer and trans communities build alternative care infrastructures outside and beyond state systems. Drawing on the kiki ballroom scene in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal) as a primary site of inquiry, my dissertation, "Illegible, Not Invisible: Speculative Care, Fugitive Method, and Black Queer Health Beyond Recognition," develops the concept of speculative care to theorize community-based practices of survival, interdependence, and collective well-being that resist institutional legibility without disappearing from view. This work sits at the intersection of Black queer studies, critical social work, and health equity, and draws on fugitive methodologies that center the knowledge and life-worlds of communities routinely excluded from mainstream health and social service systems. Funded by the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (SSHRC, 2022).

My master's research examined Black LGBTQ+ identity development in Québec, exploring how Black queer people navigate belonging, community, and selfhood across racial and sexual identity formations shaped by both anti-Black racism and homophobia. This work contributed to an underdeveloped area of francophone social work scholarship and laid the groundwork for my doctoral research on Black queer care and community infrastructure.
