Report

Social worker, researcher, and community organizer working at the intersections of Black queer survival, abolitionist health praxis, and critical methodology.

My doctoral research at Dalhousie University theorizes how Black queer and trans communities generate and sustain care outside institutional health systems, particularly through kiki ballroom culture in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal). I develop speculative care as a framework for understanding how care is practiced through kinship, mutual aid, and embodied relation, and the Fugitive Care Intravention as a methodology for researching from within fugitive care infrastructures without converting them into objects of institutional knowledge production.

My work draws on Afropessimist critique, Black feminist theory, and abolitionist social work. It is grounded in sustained community embeddedness and committed to building knowledge that remains accountable to the communities that produce it — beyond reform, beyond recognition, and beyond the limits of what institutions have been willing to sustain.

Open to research collaborations, speaking opportunities, and community partnerships rooted in care and liberation.

Education: 4

Dalhousie University

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Health

Sep 2022 - Aug 2026

My doctoral research examines how Black queer and trans communities build alternative care infrastructures outside and beyond state systems. Drawing on the kiki ballroom scene in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal) as a primary site of inquiry, my dissertation, "Illegible, Not Invisible: Speculative Care, Fugitive Method, and Black Queer Health Beyond Recognition," develops the concept of speculative care to theorize community-based practices of survival, interdependence, and collective well-being that resist institutional legibility without disappearing from view. This work sits at the intersection of Black queer studies, critical social work, and health equity, and draws on fugitive methodologies that center the knowledge and life-worlds of communities routinely excluded from mainstream health and social service systems. Funded by the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (SSHRC, 2022).
