Community Guidelines

Last updated: April 2026

These guidelines are part of Sifa's Terms of Service. Violating these guidelines is a violation of the Terms of Service. If there's any conflict between these guidelines and the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service take precedence. These guidelines are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, as set out in section 13 of the Terms of Service.

Sifa is a professional identity network. These guidelines describe how we expect people to behave when using it. They apply to all content you publish through Sifa, including your profile, endorsements, and any other records written to your Atmosphere account via our service.

1. Be honest

Your Sifa profile is a professional representation of who you are. Keep it accurate.

  • Don't claim positions you didn't hold, degrees you didn't earn, or skills you don't have
  • Don't impersonate someone else or create a profile for a person who isn't you
  • Don't use misleading job titles, company names, or credentials
  • If something on your profile changes (you leave a job, complete a certification), update it

We're not going to fact-check every position title. But if we receive a credible report that profile content is fabricated, we'll investigate and may remove the content from Sifa's interface.

2. Be respectful

Sifa is a professional network. Treat people the way you'd want to be treated in a professional context.

  • Don't use Sifa to harass, threaten, or intimidate anyone
  • Don't publish content that targets people based on protected characteristics including race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, age, or national origin
  • Don't use endorsements or other Sifa features to harass or defame someone
  • Don't spam other users with unsolicited endorsements or connection requests

Professional disagreement is fine. Being a jerk isn't.

Endorsements

Endorsements should be genuine. If you receive an endorsement you don't want (whether it's inaccurate, unwanted, or from someone you don't know), you can remove it from your profile. You can also retract any endorsement you've given.

3. Don't game the system

The point of Sifa is to build a trustworthy professional identity based on real activity and genuine endorsements. Don't try to fake it.

  • Don't create fake accounts to endorse yourself or inflate your stats
  • Don't use automated tools to mass-create profiles, endorsements, or connections
  • Don't coordinate with others to exchange fake endorsements
  • Don't scrape Sifa at a rate that degrades the service for other users
  • Don't try to manipulate the activity data Sifa displays

If we detect coordinated inauthentic behavior, we'll remove the accounts and content involved.

4. Keep it legal

Don't use Sifa to do anything illegal. This includes (but isn't limited to):

  • Publishing content that infringes on someone else's intellectual property
  • Using Sifa to distribute malware or phishing links
  • Publishing content that violates privacy laws (for example, sharing someone's personal information without their consent)
  • Using Sifa in connection with fraud, scams, or deceptive business practices

5. What happens if you break these guidelines

If you violate these guidelines, we may:

  • Remove specific content from Sifa's interface
  • Temporarily suspend your profile on Sifa
  • Permanently remove your profile and suppress your DID (your permanent AT Protocol identifier) to prevent re-registration

The response depends on the severity and frequency of the violation. We'll provide a clear statement of the reasons, including the specific guideline violated and the facts the decision was based on, unless doing so would compromise safety or an ongoing investigation.

Before permanently suppressing your DID, we'll notify you and give you an opportunity to respond within 14 days, except in cases involving imminent safety risks or manifestly illegal content. Suppression is reviewed annually. You can request a review by contacting appeals@sifa.id.

Removing content or a profile from Sifa doesn't delete anything from your Atmosphere account or the AT Protocol. Your data stays in your Atmosphere account and remains accessible through other AT Protocol apps. We can only control what appears on Sifa. We don't delete data from your Atmosphere account without your explicit request, and even then, we can only modify id.sifa.* records that you've authorized us to access.

6. Report a problem

If you see content on Sifa that violates these guidelines, let us know at report@sifa.id. Include:

  • The profile or content you're reporting (a link is most helpful)
  • What guideline you think it violates
  • Any additional context that might help us understand the situation

We aim to acknowledge reports promptly and provide an initial response within 14 business days, though complex cases may take longer. We won't share your identity with the person you're reporting unless required by law.

Reporting illegal content

If you believe content on Sifa is illegal under applicable law, please email report@sifa.id with the subject line "Illegal content report." Include the specific content and its location, the legal basis for your claim, and your contact information. We'll assess such reports in accordance with the Digital Services Act and take appropriate action.

Appeals

You can appeal any moderation decision by emailing appeals@sifa.id within 30 days. We'll review your appeal and respond within 14 days. This doesn't affect your right to seek redress through the courts or an out-of-court dispute settlement body.

7. A note about the AT Protocol

Sifa is built on an open protocol. That means:

  • Your profile data lives in your Atmosphere account, not on Sifa's servers. We can remove content from Sifa's interface, but we don't delete data from your Atmosphere account without your explicit request.
  • Other AT Protocol apps may show content that Sifa has removed from its own interface. We have no control over what other apps display.
  • If you've been removed from Sifa but want to delete your data from the protocol entirely, you'll need to do that through your Atmosphere account provider.

These guidelines govern Sifa specifically, not the AT Protocol as a whole.
