Normal People
BBC Three
This is such a smart, intelligent, tactful, deeply insightful miniseries about love. I feel this is a real art work that might have come closest to represent what real, true, love is - or could be. And yes, in that form, it does seem plausible. The vulnerability, the way they look at each other... This was beyond acting. Paul Mescal & Daisy Edgar-Jones, what class actors. And then the picture, the silences... An absolute must-see.

Somebody Somewhere
HBO
This is a series that reminded me of the true beauty and grace of every-day humans, and how life's beauty comes from its complexity. Hats off to the cast, they own their characters and nail the dialogs and more importantly, the silences.

Such a great first season... And then the second season, through the use and abuse of every technique known to any average intern in film post-editing to mask poor writing (overly present sound track, endless slow motion sequences with actors practicing the art of grimacing as if they were mimes in Paris) ruins it. My advise ? Stop at the first season and linger in the beautiful space of unanswered questions...

Very Happy Alexander
Yves Robert
This playful and original comedy hides a surprisingly sharp philosophical core that feels even more relevant today than at its 1968 release, especially in the way it questions happiness, work/life balance, conformity, and what it means to live a “successful” life. Featuring a string of French actors that would become icons of French cinema: Philippe Noiret, Jean Carmet, Marlène Jobert, and the oh so funny Pierre Richard! I highly recommend it to people who call themselves work-a-holics !

Master of None
Netflix
Follow the love-life-through-dating-apps of a young American of Indian origins trying to have an acting career and find love while getting is tummy filled with good food. Watching this show is really observing Aziz Ansari as he hones his skills as movie director, writer, and actor. Teaser: he gets there! The first season takes off slowly and is sometimes awkward but eventually brings more and more interesting cinema moments and dialogs, The second season felt much more thought out and coherent with a lot of cinema reference... The third is so moving. I've watched it twice since its creation and wished he would do a fourth season...

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
HBO
This prequel has a refreshing take on the GoT universe: instead of following royalties as they plot for power through devilish political moves, you follow a hedge knight who lacks self esteem and does not really know what to do with himself. Its still GoT so there is plenty of hemoglobyn and bone breaking moments, but the show is otherwise quite introverted and sensible. Loved it!

Whispers in the Woods
Vincent Munier
"Wilderness is invisible, but it leaves traces..." Follow a son, its father and grand father inside the Vosges forest as they intend to observe nature, while the grandfather recalls memories of a life spent observing wilderness. Sublime images that will make you want to drop that darn phone and pack up into the woods.

Every episode was for me a sure moment of cheer joy and laughter in my day, no matter the day... Ron Swanson is my mentor. I love how this show, beyond the fun and comedy, also pictures modern American society in all its aspects including its good (the idealism, the follow-your-dreams) and bad (puritanism, patriarchy...). I just finished rewatching the entire show for the second time.

Journey of the Heart Path of Conscious Love, The
John Welwood
This truly inspiring book lays the foundations for a modern perspective on love and relationships as a potential for growth. It outlines a possible conception of relationships as a place where we can learn more about ourselves through self-disclosure, with vulnerability being fundamental to daring to let go... The most important is how we deal with conflicts; ugly from the outside, they indicates the entrance to growth opportunities for each partner.
