I love that song. "And instead I pour the milk..." www.theverge.com/column/10035...

  • From the verge, "Suzanne Vega is sometimes called the “mother of the MP3.” Karlheinz Brandenburg was working on audio compression technology at the Fraunhofer Society (FHG) in Germany and turned to Vega’s “Tom’s Diner” as his benchmark due to her “warm, human voice” that would be a challenge to encode. Thousands of miles away, James Johnston also turned to “Tom’s Diner” while working on audio compression at Bell Labs. Brandenburg and Johnston’s work ultimately led to the creation of MPEG-1 Audio Layer III standard, better known as MP3."

Go easy on me. (I wasn't going to post it, because it needs more thought, but this a blog, not a research paper.)
