Going to double-dip here: A navmesh is a very handy thing to have, even in a multiplayer game without NPCs. Turns out it's generally very useful to have a fast way of saying "can a player reasonably reach this spot?" (e.g. when dropping items and making sure players can get to them)
If you are an engineer making stuff for designers, learn the design workflows. Sit in their standups, observe how they make things, try to use the SAME tooling they use, in the same way. If you can, ask for a small design task to implement! Don't just write something that "meets a spec"; dogfood it
