We have a tool for this, it’s called licensing. Put a license on your content. It tells people what they can and can’t do with it.

nothing against Anuj, just want to ask something this made me think about. we care about users but up until their data is on protocol? now the intended use and expected usage is irrelevant. this is literally a consent shaped thing, stansite records have a canonical home they should be viewed there

I want to be clear that this sounds like “why publish a webpage if you don’t expect people to scrape it,” which is effectively the argument made about Common Crawl and LLMs. Dunno if that’s Anuj’s intent, but it basically says “fuck copyright”

I don't understand the statement here? Why have data out in the open if you're not expecting it to be used the way open data is used? For those that don't want that, there will be permissioned spaces or non-protocol platforms. You're trying to force people to use squares in a circle here.

I have yet to see a model of carceral punishment that is ethical or justified, no matter the crime. In order to believe that one existed, I would have to see a society try every other model first with real earnestness and commitment to making it work. That has never happened.
