It turns out that leaving my job working with brilliant people I care about and moving my whole family across country in a compressed time period is a *whole thing*.

Every week I gather notable links and articles that I think are worth discussing. Today's roundup includes: journalism needs to reinvent itself; how leaders can and should empower their people; how to poison an LLM in just 13 words; and more. werd.io/notable-link...

The idea that people pushing for equity and basic government protections are somehow equivalent to MAGA is absurd and a narrative that’s being deliberately pushed right now. Its gross. Don’t buy it.

I’m very sorry to hear this. One of the most important voices in blogging, tech journalism, and then the wider industry, and always with a conscience, thoughtfulness, and kindness. om.co/2026/06/24/1...

My tiny buddy asked to watch the show with the spaceship that’s also a time machine today. Could not be more delighted.

This is a @404media.co appreciation post. What an incredible newsroom. They consistently report stories that are genuinely meaningful and wouldn't have received adequate coverage elsewhere - and they do it so incredibly well. I'm an enormous fan.

All you need to poison an LLM is 13 words.

A reminder that my Speaking Truth to Power feed lists non-profit news that speaks truth to power in the United States, and is available -- on @surf.social (a superb app you should be using), on the web at speakingtruthtopower.surf.social, and on Bluesky as a feed at bsky.app/profile/did:...

Cannot believe they (temporarily) canceled Doctor Who but there's yet another Big Bang Theory spinoff.

Journalism is rearranging the deckchairs. It needs to reinvent itself.

This is exciting. Any ATproto identity can create any number of private PDS spaces and then decide who has access to them. Access to a space is binary (you have it or you don't) but an identity can have any number of them. Be aware that private data isn't end-to-end encrypted, though.

The strategists and consultants at the heart of left-leaning political parties on both sides of the Atlantic are wildly out of touch with where people are actually at, and it's the *exact same* ivory tower problem as why newsrooms are losing trust and loyalty at a precipitous rate.

Ten years of Brexit = Ten years of a country brought to its knees by militant nationalists out for their own profit and the racists who aligned to them, Ten years of persistent decline, Ten years of knowing I couldn’t legally return to live in the country where I grew up. I’m still seething.

Big difference between US and UK TV news media: One broadcasts unnecessary footage of people's cars speeding down freeways, The other broadcasts unnecessary footage of people riding public mass transit to their planned destination

Today I took my kid to his swimming lesson, repaired some stonework with my dad, made a nice dinner for everyone (dessert by my dad), kicked a ball around with my kid and watched him see fireflies for the first time. Happy Father’s Day to me. It was perfect.
