The clearest evidence of short term vs long term thinking: Making the French heat wave about AC in the US, while in Europe they are talking about climate change.

I mean, this is actually a real problem in places where the housing stock is old *stares in New England* It’s a problem for many reasons, not least because the units are heavy and not everyone can man handle one into a window.

This is not the heat island effect. The heat island effect multi-cause and primarily is caused by primarily by materials and land use, geography, and reduction in tree cover. But no one is under the impression that we're violating the laws of thermodynamics here.

I know you all know this, but you do know that air conditioning doesn’t actually cool the air down? Right? It removes the heat. Which sounds similar, except for the fact that the heat still exists, and needs to be exhausted somewhere else. Usually out your window. That’s the heat island effect.

You have to wonder how many lives could have been saved if Northern Ice magnates hadn't discredited John Gorrie's work and air conditioning development had started 70 some years earlier.
