Softbank getting this exuberant while (as far as I can tell) referring to themselves as the goose that continually lays Artificial Super Intelligence eggs, is making me mighty nervous.

Some starts after having left it running overnight for about 8 hours: > 36 creatures (36 armed · 0 unarmed) · 32 food · 109039 born · 111713 died · gen 1675 So... I guess I'm not recording every single creature spawned to the PDS then.

I nerd-sniped myself into an alife project, riffing on the ideas from Steve Grand’s unfinished Simergy. First time vibe-coding the bulk of a project from a description, since it’s greenfield and has no real stability/security concerns to babysit. LLMs can be a custom toy factory. #atdev

Fascinating concept here — perfect example of a Cuckoo, using the PDS as a coordination and messaging layer for an off-protocol service. It has potential to be the BitTorrent of inference.

I take this personally because about two years ago I was talking to a bunch of EU policy-makers in Tallinn about how fragile centralized, closed systems are. numergent.com/2024-11/Cent... And I’ve kept doing it since then. Seems as long as you slap an EU flag on it, it’s fine.

Centralization Is A Fragile Thing
@nicr.dev avatarNicolò Ribaudo@nicr.dev

So now there are two main European atproto providers (PDS and client), one is open source and one is closed source. Very concerned that the EU talks about how important OSS is, and then they pick the closed source one :/

Did DoD just admit in a court filing that it used xAI's Grok Gov Model to hit the girls' school on the first day of the Iran war? Based on some passages flagged by @rgoodlaw.bsky.social in DoD's recent filing in NAACP's case against X, it looks like it did 1/

Seems I've got an impersonator, and wouldn't even have noticed if the account hadn't blocked and then unblocked me. Achievement unlocked, I suppose. I've reported it and it's been suspended, but in case it resurfaces, do not believe its lies.

Starting to think that, over the next weeks, W is going to provide a useful EU lightning rod. If I were Bluesky PBC, I’d be test-driving any potentially controversial features in the EU right about now. 😹

I didn't have the background on W Social... Starting as "climate change awareness", pivoting at Davos into "EU media infrastructure", while close-sourcing a US-born open source project. It stinks of opportunistic narrative-chasing. Via @elenarossini.com blog.elenarossini.com/the-untold-s...

This is absolutely insane way to run an engineering company worth over a trillion dollars. The silver lining is that if they fuck things up badly enough, Facebook and Instagram may hemorrhage users.

Death of the killer app: with enough affordances, a platform doesn’t need one to grow. ATProto plus the collapsing cost of personal app creation means the next killer app, if there is ever one at all, might be accidental. numergent.com/2026-06/Deat... #atdev

The @bun.sh Rust migration is going to be a major trust test for Anthropic — not a technical problem, but a narrative wall. I don’t know at what performance multiple you manage to break through the “vibe coded” bad-vibes barrier.

@pierbover.com avatarPier@pierbover.com

PSA Bun will no longer fix bugs on the Zig version. github.com/oven-sh/bun/... I will keep my current Bun projects on 1.3.14 (the last Zig version) for the time being. Going back to Node for upcoming projects. Maybe in a year or two I'll give a shot to the vibe coded Rust port. Or not.

mu.social launches with post editing, a news tab, and distributed verification — things Bluesky could ship, but is busy chasing other squirrels. Build what people want early, iterate, get better. Get a head start. Proper offshoot survival path.

@eurosky.social avatarEurosky Social@eurosky.social

We launch with three novel features, and many more in the work. 1. Edit your posts! You have a five minute window to edit after sending (and the likes count gets reset). Perfect to fix those typos that mysteriously appear when you hit "Post".
