Yess, Miyajima was a highlight when I went a couple years ago. Did you get to walk around by the gate before the water came in?
Tempted to frame and hang this thread on my wall as a shining example of why I distrust LLMs for coding. It's fraught even if you're careful, malpractice if you're not.
Great recommendation! Henry's writing is always very clear-eyed. Love his portfolio site too, just stunning.
I'd much rather spend my time on here sharing stuff I think is beautiful or inspiring than engage with that. But maybe I should make a space of my own to voice some of the thoughts I usually keep to myself. If only to not cede all of the oxygen in the room.
It's not like I talk about AI constantly, much less have a huge following. But I guess this is how these people gain a louder voice in the conversation than they have any right to. "ONLY LLMs CAN BE TECH! AI MUST BLOT OUT THE SUN! WHY AREN'T YOU ON BOARD YET??"
Someone recently felt it necessary to add me to a list of "tech pessimists". I didn't respond, just chuckled at it and blocked the guy. Not about to explain to some "AI and crypto ♥️" shell of a person that my day job is coding and teaching others how. It's just odd he'd even bother to add me
This puts words to a feeling I've had for a while. How suffocating this is, the urge many feel to preface even mild expressions of criticism or annoyance w/ "I'm not anti-AI, but". As though it's an article of tech industry faith that you must be (or else appear to be) utterly hooked on LLMs
