Have you explored libsql/turso? It would probably require a fork of the reference pds but its basically a 1-1 drop in. The local sqlite files still exist as a read-only client and writes are sent remotely.

Neat. Can always submit prs or issues if you run into anything. I know they are expecting some big changes to spindle so it will need to be resynced at some point.
