I did a breakthrough 👀

Apparently I'm now allowed to talk about this...? I've had early access to GPT-5.6/Stephenson 2-18 for around a month now and hands down, this is the most luminous model I've used so far.

It bugs me that Luna, Sol and Terra are supposed to be three sizes of model but real-life Sol is DRAMATICALLY larger than the other two in a way that the models are not.

just finished recording an episode of the UIT INSIDE podcast on ATProto with @danabra.mov if you don't run a podcast, I'd highly recommend starting one - just to get to sit down with folks like dan for an hour. ❤️ the atmosphere is exciting, will try to get the episode out sometime next week!

Yay! Wait, what did I do to deserve this? What does this mean? Am I now one of @patak.cat's cats?

people in Japan call ChatGPT "chappy" (チャッピー) and its so catchy I can't go back 🤯

opencode honestly is such a chad for this

modern web tooling produces few tightly packed cross-library bundles tailored to your app - but in a COS world, you'd probably want to preserve module graphs of canonical chunks to increase cache hit rates 🤔 now imagine a world where v8 had bytecode caches for all those modules.. 🤯

@danielroe.dev avatardanielroe@danielroe.dev

wouldn't it be nice if sites could share a cache of common js? ... stuff like react, or vue or svelte? 👉 there's an early stage proposal for cross-origin storage which enables exactly this. there are challenges but I think it's very interesting indeed

got access to new siri and so far I'm underwhelmed. - could not get it to play a song for me on spotify - it ends voice input mid sentence even though I am clearly still speaking - it struggles picking up words - the UI is beautiful, but very very buggy still very early beta though

LLMs are just KV stores with really fancy hash functions

while I understand the concerns around Chrome's Prompt API and think many of them are valid, at the same time, I am very anxious seeing iOS & Android adding on-device models to the platform with first party native support - whilst the web at the same time get's nothing

ran svelte-bench on apple's new 3B parameter on-device model... doesn't look like we'll be vibe coding with iPhone-local inference just yet 😭

Svelte Bench result for apple's latest on device model, AFM 3 Core, that will be baked into the OS on Apple intelligence enabled devices going forward

I love how iCloud nudges you to "free up disk space by moving stuff to the cloud" while Xcode doesn't even bother mentioning that you have 105gb of unused iOS images just sitting on disk somewhere.. who knows, maybe he'll feel nostalgic and check that iOS 16 beta again?

I've always enjoyed Hegelian dialectics - I picture them as a pendulum swinging back and forth, gradually settling through friction. A pendulum alone might be the simplest system imaginable. Attach just one more pendulum, though, and you get pure chaos. To me, that explains much of the real world.

wasn't sure if mythos was gonna live up to the hype.. but hell yes it peli-can! at this rate we will have to consult ornithologists to determine model progress in a few months from now.

years ago I painstakingly set up the network for my parents' beer garden back over in Germany - a decently complex mesh system (multiple network printers, etc.) Yesterday, my dad called our ISP's support for an unrelated issue. Their advice: just stick a needle in the router to do a factory reset!

I'm a sucker for those spontaneous street races where you walk with approximately the same gait as a stranger heading the same way, so you enter a fierce battle for valor - pretending you didn't notice, but secretly queueing a 185bpm song ready to engage every muscle of that elite walking apparatus.

Can’t wait to get my hands on mythos, so it can help me migrate my strings to single quotes
