In this work we propose Frenetic Cat-inspired Particle Optimization (FCPO), a hybrid swarm framework that formalizes stochastic, explicit-state switching between exploitation and exploration operators using a Markov switching controller. FCPO couples three mechanisms intended for expensive, multimodal objectives: (i) a PSO-like baseline update for efficient progress [Kennedy and Eberhart, 1995], (ii) an exploration “zoomies” operator based on elite-difference jumps inspired by DE mutation principles [Storn and Price, 1997], and (iii) covariance-informed Eigen-space guidance, updated from elite solutions, to provide anisotropic refinement directions motivated by covariance adaptation ideas Hansen and Ostermeier [2001], Hansen [2016]. To reduce late-stage evaluation cost, FCPO further integrates Linear Population Size Reduction (LPSR) [Tanabe and Fukunaga, 2014]. The Markov transition matrix is adapted online to reinforce behaviors associated with the current best particle and to bias transitions toward exploration under stagnation, yielding a heterogeneous population with state-dependent dynamics.

I finetuned Gemma 4 E2B on Math OCR to Typst. (the largest model I was able to run on my meager setup always outputs LaTeX). not bad, but it's chopping off the third line. first two lines are correct though. guessing it's due to single equation training data i used.

prototyping an SRS app that uses typst to render cards. claude managed to get linking of the drawn cloze boxes to subexpressions in the typst text / equation working, at least in this simple case.

I have a mass-summoned demon bound via a YAML pact file to a club-swinging harness. the demon reads intent from a gesture queue, submits a swing proposal to an arbiter spirit. upon approval the swing is executed via cursed proxy. latency is about 4 seconds. sometimes it swings at the wrong monster.

I think I can offer a partial explanation, as yer resident anti-AI understander. Programming is wizardry: you go to school, you read the books, you learn the arcane languages. Using AI is like being a warlock, making a deal with a demon to do the things you can’t do. And who knows the cost?

universal basic silly question scratcher

I still sometimes ask questions that don’t make literal sense. And that’s okay, because I find that in my research, murky questions can be stepping stones on the path of learning. Sometimes it’s even where new math comes from. There’s an old saying “Ask a silly question, get a silly answer,” but I say: Scratch a silly question and you might find a better one struggling to get out.
