Highlights

Full profile

A software engineer, a trust and safety advocate, a community builder and an adventurer.

From building greenfield products in startups to building products that serve billions of users in big tech, I have developed an exceptional experience (~and tolerance) in dealing with both binaries and people.

On a quest to make sure that the voices of those who are often overlooked are heard loud and clear.

Career: 6

Cloudflare

London Area, United Kingdom

2025 - Present

Member of Cloudforce One Security Research I design and operate large-scale detection systems that analyse data derived from tens of millions of requests per second across Cloudflare’s global network. This includes building data pipelines, developing new signals, creating scoring systems, and automating detection and enforcement workflows to identify malicious activity at internet scale. These detections and mitigations protect both Cloudflare (customer zero) and customers who enable Detections for Platforms. I continue to lead Child Safety Engineering and am a member of the AI Champions team, helping reimagine and rebuild internal processes and services with AI. • Rust - Go - TypeScript - Workers - AI - Computer Vision - Data Analysis

Cloudflare

London Area, United Kingdom

Mar 2024 - 2025

Owner and SME for Child Safety Engineering @Cloudflare. I own and operate the CSAM Scanner, a content moderation system that helps customers detect, block, and report known Child Sexual Abuse Material. The platform is capable of scanning hundreds of thousands of frames per second while maintaining high detection accuracy and reliability. I also own the trusted reporters workflow, from receiving reports and impounding content through to blocking and reporting abusive material. In addition, I contributed extensively to the development of our internal legal platform and the Trust & Safety Blocks stack. • Rust - Go - TypeScript - Kubernetes - Temporal - Workers - Workflows - Queues - Kafka

Amazon Web Services

2021 - Mar 2024

I focused on HTTP/3 and QUIC protocol work along with anti-DDoS initiatives. My day-to-day was about tackling tough distributed systems and networking problems, making sure a tier-1 service could handle billions of requests per minute reliably and at speed. • Rust - Tokio - QUIC - HTTP3 - DDoS mitigation - Nginx internals - Java - C - Caching - Kinesis - Flink

Mnt-halan

Cairo, Egypt

2020 - 2021

I worked on a microfinance loan tracking system in Go that processed millions of transactions daily with high availability and low latency. I built reporting and analytics microservices in Go and Python, optimized monthly reporting (cutting response times by 80%), and maintained complex Postgres queries used to calculate financial statistics. I also improved test coverage by adding unit, integration, and end-to-end tests as part of revamping the automation service. • Go - Python - Mongo - Postgres - RabbitMQ - ElasticSearch - Cassandra - Redis - Docker - Kubernetes - gRPC - gin - Minio

Valeo

Cairo, Egypt

2018 - 2020

I worked in the tooling service line, delivering software and services used by thousands of embedded software engineers worldwide. This included building a web application that aggregated data from multiple systems to track project status and compliance, giving senior management visibility for decision-making. I also developed and maintained microservice-based platforms for automating unit testing, and supported a resource management system that helped team leads allocate workloads more effectively. • Python - JavaScript - Bootstrap - TypeScript - Flask - Angular - Redis - SQLAlchemy - Postgres - Docker - Jenkins - C#

Valeo

Cairo, Egypt

2018

I worked on applying machine learning to autonomous driving, exploring imitation learning and behavior cloning. I built a CNN that learned to predict driver actions from video frames, and trained a Cycle-GAN to translate LiDAR inputs into realistic RGB images. • Python - Tensorflow - Carla Simulator - RL Coach
