I help people imagine possibilities for music learning and teaching so they can design, update, expand, or transform music programs of all kinds to better support young people and make a positive impact in the world.

I direct the Consortium for Innovation and Transformation in Music Education at ASU and I am the former Director of the Kax Herberger Center for Children and the Arts.

I am available for consulting on projects and professional development.

Adult Accomplice/Faculty Member of YOLA National Institute

I collaborate with adult accomplices and young musicians to design, develop, and forward equity-oriented project based learning as part of the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA) National Institute. This program centers youth voices and experiences to support these young musicians engage in ongoing inquiry and development that they can apply throughout their lives and careers.

J Dilla Music Tech Initiatie

I am a co-designer and on the leadership team of the J Dilla Music Tech Grant Initiative (with the Save The Music Foundation) via the Consortium for Innovation and Transformation in Music Education (CITME) at Arizona State University. CITME plays an important role in the J Dilla Music Tech grant by providing grantees with professional development and support. We work with our partners to develop resources, curricula, and related pedagogy to help the grantees. Director of CITME, Dr. Evan Tobias is also facilitating action research for which each grantee earns 45 hours of professional development. Aspects of the grant program are also integrated with a number of courses at ASU such as Art of Teaching Contemporary Musicians, Beatmaking, Digital Hybrid Lab, Digital and Participatory Culture in Music, and our Sound and Music Innovation Lab (SMIL).

Sound Explorations: Creating, Expressing, and Improving Communities

I was Primary Investigator and Lead for a Playlists for Learning grant from the Digital Media and Learning Competition 6, with support from the MacArthur Foundation, to develop connected learning playlists.
