Ok folks, I wrote social media posts (at least, the ones for the official account) so as a reward, have a cool diagram we've discussed yesterday on stream 👀 that I may or may not have a prototype for 👀👀 (no promises though, a lot that goes into making this *real* real)

  • Hand-drawn style architecture diagram of a community-shared infrastructure server for an open-web hosting setup. On the left, a purple "User" node says "let's make cool stuff on the open web!" and step 1 uploads their site to a "Tangled Knot" box holding three Git repos. Step 2, the uploaded site gets built by "Tangled Spindle" (annotated "needed?? we just don't know"). Step 3, "ATproto Dokploy" picks up the deployment, holding several site configs. Step 3.5, stuff runs in isolated containers, drawn as "FireCracker VMs or some of that bullshit (affectionate)" with two running sites, which a "HappyView Instance" pulls data from, all under the "watchful eye of the Tailscale, probably." A blue "Community PDS" circle sits beside clusters of other PDS circles and a note asking whether it maintains access/membership policies. At the bottom, "ATproto NGINX (cursed)" serves a visitor asking "Hello! Can I see cool stuff from the open web?", with a side note that they'll switch to Caddy when Trezy rewrites HappyView in TypeScript. A legend lists what "Sites" may be: personal blogs, webrings, community forums, personal labelers, chatrooms, community wiki, alongside boxes for Labelers, Microcosm, and an Image Service marked "co/infra has one!

Folks!!! Not really a webring (yet) but after much suffering on stream, I've made an itty-bitty ATproto "spaces" + "communities" starter, featuring BOTH the spaces lexicons (more or less established), and a stub of the opensocial community lexicons (still WIP). It's on..... 👀

I think I just made one of the most excessive Astro integrations ever ("Wait—are you hiding your blog admin page/OAuth endpoints from the wider internet so those not connected to your private [tailscale] network can't mess with the content of your website?" You bet I am! 👈👈😎)

Plus, as someone who spends most of their day interacting with exactly the type of artist/fanfic writer that's supposed to be furthest away from a dev, I can tell you they're far more database-pilled than most devs. They just call them spreadsheets.
