Associate Tech Lead at yaala labs

Sri Lanka🇱🇰
Report

Since childhood I was keen on art and design, thus I am following the path of interface designs and development.

Currently I work at Yaala Labs, developing and maintaining front-end of a cloud-native trading platform. I'm comfortable using Typescript with React. Debugging layout issues hidden deep inside CSS is one of my favorites. You'll find me inspecting elements in any shiny web layout I come across.

I love to photograph night skies, hike with friends, watch documentaries in my leisure time. Life goals are to meet good people and travel the world.

Katha Karamu—meaning "Let’s Talk"—is a Sinhala text-to-speech solution developed to help non-speaking individuals engage with the broader Sri Lankan community. It also simplifies the traditional keyboard layout for Sinhala alphabet to make it easier for anyone to use the app. The keyboard layout was later adapted to Tamil as well, with the name Kadhaippoma. I was involved with the second version of the app where it introduced Tamil support, and allowing user to switch between Sinhala and Tamil languages.

In this project, we studied the process from extraction of raw silica to production and assembly of silicon wafers. We evaluated the technical, financial, social, ecological and market feasibilities of starting a plant in Sri Lanka. At the end, we compiled a report of our findings and a proposal to get funds from the World Bank.

GX200 is an engine from Thailand, which is used for long-tail boats. There is a need for the boat to have a reverse gear, and it's propeller shaft to be shortened. First we are designing a simple gearbox and a clutching mechanism with a centrifugal clutch. We're also implementing a mechanism to shorten the long propeller shaft with the help of a bevel gear train.

2018

For this machine design project, we designed a gearbox for a clay mixing machine. Then the machine can operate in variable torques with the same prime mover, by switching the gears.
