Career: 4

Scientist

Caltech

Jul 2019 - Present

Leading the Software and Algorithms Lab of the Owens Valley Radio Observatory. Manage development of data analysis software for OVRO-LWA and DSA radio interferometers. Mentored high school and undergraduate students in research projects.

Scientist

UC Berkeley

Berkeley, CA

Dec 2008 - Jul 2019

Fundamental research in astrophysics, including the study of the transient universe. Developing new techniques to use radio interferometers such as the Very Large Array and the Allen Telescope Array for transient/anomaly detection in large data streams. Mentored undergraduates in astronomical research projects.

Postdoctoral Fellow

University of Amsterdam

Jul 2006 - Dec 2008

Scientist on the commissioning team for LOFAR, a novel radio interferometer in the Netherlands and throughout Europe. Worked to bring this new telescope from an engineering concept to a full observatory.

Astrophysicist

Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics

Sep 2000 - Jun 2002

Observing support, including testing and documentation of data analysis software for the Chandra X-ray Observatory.

Bispectrum Radio Transient Detection

arxiv.org/abs/1112.0308

Sep 2011 - Present

We developed an algorithm for efficiently searching massive data streams of radio interferometers for brief, transient sources. This technique is robust to common sources of confusion in such searches and computationally efficient, making real-time data processing possible.
