Finally got LODs working in my voxel engine! Took way to long to get the Octree working. Still have a bunch of clean-up to do, both in terms of optimization and organization. #bevy #voxel
Game stats that reset every frame, inspired by immediate mode GUI.
RepositoryNow that exams are done I can get back to playing with voxels in Bevy. Block types are now defined in config files, and have textures. Might work on an LOD system next, we'll see how it goes.
Recently started on my voxel-engine arc in #bevy. And yes, this is more important than studying for final exams next week.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Gareth Edwards
My favorite movie ever. Everything about it is amazing. The cinematography is the best we've seen in Star Wars. The music is absolutely incredible, taking the existing soundscape and twisting it expertly. Just absolutely amazing. That's not to say it's perfect. Far from it. There are many issues with the film. However, the problems don't take away from what makes it so good.

Project Hail Mary
Phil Lord
A lot more comedic than I expected, with a fair amount of emotion. Ryan Gosling is charming as always, so even though he is alone for fair bit it doesn't feel stale. On a basic plot level, it has some similarities to Arrival, The Darkness Outside Us, and The Martian of course, but with a very different vibe from all three.

Ultrakill
Very satisfying and overwhelming movement shooter. I am not great at shooters in general, so managing all the weapons, enemies, movement, and non-Euclidean levels can be a bit much. But the game does a good job at making me feel cool even when I am struggling. The game's style is also very cool, from the story/lore to the graphics.

Dune
Denis Villeneuve
Very well-made, with tons of interesting elements and ideas. It really feels like a small piece of a larger universe. However, it does feel pretty slow and long, and just ends randomly.

Death Note
Nippon TV
A very good investigation thriller, that is very stressful at times. The first couple arcs are incredible, but it does fall off a bit after that. The show does a great job at making interesting situations even though we (and often the characters themselves) already know the answers. My main complaint are the female characters. The female lead is your standard love interest maniac, and there are only three other prominent female characters.

The Fall Guy
David Leitch
A very good action movie. It feels weird rating it so highly, but I think it perfectly hit what it was going for. It's not some deep or thought-provoking story, but I was never expecting it to be. Unlike many generic action movies, The Fall Guy actually spends time on romance which makes it actually add to the overall story (who could have guessed!). I think the comedic elements also land well. Very self-indulgent in movie references and culture.

Noita
Nolla Games
Noita is a very good sandbox, but I am less sure about the game as a whole. The "every pixel is simulated" gimmick is cool and well executed. It does affect gameplay and is just as dangerous as the enemies. The wand/spell system is also extremely cool. Very deep, just like the environment. However, the game has a major downside. It's really hard. I don't really feel like I’m getting better while I'm playing it. When I progress further than usual, it's not because I got better at the game or upgraded my character or anything. I just got lucky. For some players that's probably fine, but it feels like I don’t have a path to getting improving. It's too difficult with too few rewards.
