This job required me first to reorganise the entire physical archive of files, categorising them into their respective types, and logging this into the digital database so that the employees would be easily able to find the files that they need. I also had to ensure that this process complied fully with GDPR. I also acted as an IT technician dealing with any problems that came up on the employee’s computers, the server, the phone line, and the network. This included setting up new devices with the server. I also shadowed meetings with clients, arranged cheques and payments with banks, and delivered letters to clients.

In this role, I was given a varied range of tasks from cleaning the holds to assisting with health and safety checks to participating in a branch meeting. I was given basic first aid training which taught CPR, and how to treat wounds. I shadowed multiple classes helping with the warm-ups, tying-in the climbers, and ensuring all safety standards were adhered to. I also assisted in the construction of a new route, which included ferrying the holds and equipment installing the holds. Spending time at the front desk, I quickly learnt how to use the company’s booking system to add in and edit appointments and register new clients.

Jun 2023 - May 2024
Treasurer
Aberystwyth Geography Society
Being the treasurer of the Aberystwyth Geography Society primarily revolves around managing the society’s finances. This involves regulating how much is spent on events and socials, approving finance requests to use the society budget to refund those who have spent money on those events, and paying people hired by the society such as photographers, bar staff and bouncers. In the role of treasurer, I was also responsible for organising the financial side of the society’s Raising and Giving Week charity event, where we raised money for Mind UK, by setting up and operating the card readers, keeping track of every payment and whether they were done via cash, card or online, and tallying up how much was raised before handling the donation to the charity. Alongside the financial work, I was also expected to help with all other aspects of the society, mainly helping to ensure that the members were enjoying their time in the society and felt safe by dealing with any issues as soon as they came up. In this role I helped raise £400 for charity.

The role of the social secretary involves planning and running all the socials, which includes managing the timetable, picking the locations, and ensuring that all the participants are aware safe and comfortable. Training for this role involved a health and safety course, where I was taught how to identify and mitigate any potential risks as well as how to write a full risk assessment. The role also required me to by sociable and engage with members of the society and the wider public in a multitude of scenarios, including night time observations, in town socials, and study sessions. I was also the first port of call if someone were to need help during a social and would support the welfare officer with any personal issues someone in the society may come to them for.
