I’ve been listening to a bunch of physics podcasts the past few weeks, and really enjoying thinking about those problems again. I’m pretty happy with how my career has gone, but every once in a while I do wonder how things would have gone if I had stayed in physics and academia.
This is a very good thread. My personal guidelines, for what it’s worth: - I donate to established charities with good reputations for actually accomplishing their goals - I donate to mutual aid and personal fundraisers for people I know directly, and those in my direct communities
Ok, but legitimately, I could practically hear the music from Apollo 13 as I was watching the coverage of the splashdown
“If you were in charge of Star Trek what would you do?” The West Wing for the Federation government
Lwaxana as a secret operative for the Federation, swanning around different worlds causing and solving diplomatic crises, would be quite fun
On the plus side, Benny here is just enjoying a relaxed lunchtime outside in the unseasonably warm weather in Denver
Yeah, this. I was not particularly a fan of Harris, and in the alternate reality where she won I think we’d be talking about several horrible things her admin was doing. …I would much rather be dealing with those problems than the ones we have today.
As a physics major turned computer person, I’ve followed QC at a really surface level for a long time. The tech is fascinating and it’s been fun to watch it develop. I think it’s unlikely that we’ll have a CRQC in 2030, but I wouldn’t bet a *lot* against it at this point.
I’m ashamed of this country for a majority voting for this man. And I’m ashamed of the Congress and larger government for not removing him.
I’m not a historian, but even a little light Googling bears this out. The 25th was passed in the wake of Kennedy’s assassination, and in the context of multiple previous presidents who were incapacitated due to stroke, illness, or injury but whose VPs could not legally assume power.
