## About

Tijs Teulings served roles as frontend-, backend-developer and digital management consultant at several leading dutch web development and advertising agencies before specializing in technical design and software architecture. In the past few years he has been in customer centric IT lead and CTO roles for several web destinations. Some as co-founder some as early stage employee.

Currently Tijs has specialized in mobile development and Apple platform development in particular.

- **Co-founder at Nomadz** (2008 – 2010)
  Nomadz is a coworking office offering a social and productive work environment to freelancers and starting entrepreneurs in The Hague, the Netherlands.
- **Technical Producer / Web Developer at Skipintro** (2003 – 2005)
  Skipintro is a dutch advertising and internet agency. At the time we served clients such as Holland Casino, Rijksmuseum, House of Orange, NautaDutilh and Randstad.
- **CTO at Gekkolab** (2013 – 2015)
  Gekko digitizes financial accounts of freelancers and makes administrative procedures more cost effective and easier to understand for both freelancers and their customers. With a team of 9 people Gekkolab is one of the main competitors in the market of administrative services for freelancers in the Netherlands.
- **Co-founder at Alchemyst / The Roomware Project** (2006 – 2010)
  The Roomware Project aimed to build open source server software that anybody could use to build software applications for physical spaces such as interactive displays in clubs, stores or as part of art projects. We developed custom bluetooth based 'beacon' software that could discover people's movement and interaction at events. As Alchemyst we deployed several interactive installations at events for clients such as Hyves and the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht.
  
  For our Hyves installation we were rewarded with a golden SpinAward for best mobile application in 2007.
- **Organizer at /dev/haag** (2011 – 2014)
  /dev/haag is a monthly meetup in The Hague about design & technology. With 700+ members this was the largest tech & design meetup in the west of The Netherlands. We organised about 35 meetups during my 'reign'.
- **CTO at Housing Anywhere** (2015 – 2015)
  Helped rebuild the existing web application to accommodate scaling needs of a growing startups. Golang development, product mgmt, hiring, architecture, etc.
  
  HousingAnywhere.com is a startup founded by a group of students from the Rotterdam School of Management. It provides a housing platform where you can sublet your room to incoming exchange students when you go abroad on an exchange or internship.
- **Mobile UI Engineer at DPG Media IT** (2022 – 2024)
  Our team makes the mobile apps for the DPG Media Freemium brands. This includes the apps for AD in NL and HLN in Belgium but also many regional brands. I specialise in mobile UI development in SwitfUI (iOS), Jetpack Compose (Android) and React Native (cross-platform).
- **React Native Specialist at DPG Media IT** (2018 – 2022)
  React Native Specialist on the team creating the iOS and Android mobile apps for the AD, regional and other brands.
- **React Native Developer at Florin** (2016 – 2017)
  Helped out the Florin team with (React Native) development, architecture, hiring etc. Florin was part of our investment portfolio at Backspace Studio.
- **Front-end Developer at NetlinQ** (1997 – 2000)
  NetlinQ was probably one of the first web agencies in the Netherlands.
  
  Front-end developer in online projects for clients such as Volkswagen, Nuon, De Telefoongids, Amstel, Elsevier, Imation, Vivenda, World Press Photo.
- **Technical Consultant at Framfab** (2000 – 2003)
  Netlinq was acquired by Framfab in 2000 and became Netlinq-Framfab and later just Framfab. At the time one of the largest web agencies in Europe with over 3000 employees. Started here as front-end developer but later served roles as Java developer and eventually primarily technical consultant.
  
  In this last position i worked on projects such as the Philips Consumer Electronics website, an EU funded trial project for the Port of Rotterdam and several others.
- **React Developer at Ace & Tate** (2017 – 2018)
  Helping the digital team launch a new website, webshop and point of sale system using React.
- **Creative Technologist at Automatique** (2005 – present)
  Automatique is an agency for mobile & web application design and development. Our clients include several small to large scale web-applications and -sites for clients such as Vlisco, Sanoma Media, Transavia and many others. Our network includes many great individuals. Together we build digital products.
- **Co-founder/CTO at NARB** (2008 – 2010)
  NARB was an online art guide for the web, mobile and iPhone. Funded by Digitale Pioniers NARB researched a means for museum and gallery visitors to discover nearby art and allowed them to discuss, rate & share individual pieces or exhibitions. Next to the mobile platform we developed several installations connecting the internet and physical spaces with clients such as Museum Booijmans van Beuningen and several artists. Our mission was to make each art work discoverable with a mobile device but in the end we failed to find a sustainable business model.
- **Founder at Fresh.li** (2008 – 2012)
  Fresh.li allows artists and other creatives to maintain a professional and personalized online portfolio with minimal fuss.

- **iOS Developer, Chapter Lead & Accessibility Lead at DPG Media IT** (2023 – present)
  Our team, Outreach, is a purpose driven team formed with the goal of improving reach & engagement for DPG's Freemium brands which include AD in the Netherlands and HLN in Belgium. As a small team we have a lot flexibility to design and implement experiments for improving our metrics. Focused on customer facing features and fast validation.
- **Co-Founder at Backspace studio** (2015 – 2018)
  Building digital products, investing in ideas, helping to launch companies.
  
  Backspace takes ideas out of HQ and into the hands of your customers. We were a startup & product studio driven by technology with a portfolio of startups. Making ideas into tangible prototypes & products.

  Backspace Studio helped the technical & design teams at Ace & Tate to roll out a completely new backend and fronted to replace their multi-lingual, multi-country e-commerce setup. We assisted with UX research and design and helped the digital team get to grips with the React framework for the new frontend.
