I design, build and operate distributed systems: high-throughput data pipelines, custom databases and content-addressed storage. My core work is SkyFeed's AT Protocol infrastructure for decentralized social media and S5's IPFS-inspired storage network. I work mainly in Rust, but also build user-facing apps and pick up other technologies as needed.

- **S5 Protocol** — https://s5.pro (Nov 2022 - Present)
  After two years working on Sia Skynet, I started S5 to rethink content-addressed storage without being bound to the IPFS specification with file-level addressing and BLAKE3/bao for verified streaming. The Rust rewrite now uses Iroh for peer-to-peer connections, while S5 unifies Sia, S3 and local storage with an encrypted filesystem and sync.

  Open-Source Flutter note-taking app in Dart for Android, storing Markdown as plain files readable without the app: GitHub Flavored Markdown, KaTeX, mermaid, tags and full-text search. It began in 2019 as a mobile client for the desktop app Notable and outgrew it.

This talk explores SkyFeed's evolution from the first Bluesky feed builder to a platform with a custom Rust-based indexer and database designed specifically for AT Protocol and Bluesky data. The new open-source architecture not only enables advanced personalized feeds and complex algorithms, but also has the potential to be a solution to one of Bluesky's biggest decentralization challenges: creating a fully independent, EU-hosted AppView that could significantly advance the network's autonomy.

Most social networks use proprietary algorithms to recommend new content and keep you on their platform for as long as possible. Other platforms don't use advanced algorithms, but this can make it difficult to discover new content and communities. What if, instead, everyone could simply build their own transparent open source algorithms and publish them for everyone to use? This is possible on Bluesky using SkyFeed (and other tools) today and this talk shows how that works and why you should care :)
