Headline: Audio Cloud & Innovation Manager at SWR

## About

I'm Daniel (Dan), a DevOps engineer at SWR Audio Lab.I build and run backend infrastructure for public broadcasting — including voice assistant integrations for ARD Sounds, ARD's live metadata platform ARD Eventhub, and SWR's radio apps. That means everything from audio delivery to API systems serving millions of requests per month.A growing part of my work is exploring and integrating AI (increasingly agentic systems) into our work: experimenting with agentic tooling, evaluating where it genuinely adds value, and building integrations that are reliable and accountable rather than just impressive in a demo.Outside of work, I train across strength, running, cycling, and functional fitness, and chase my personal best in HYROX races.Across all of it, I value quality over quantity — in code, in training, and in how I spend my time.Based in southwest Germany. Previously worked in live and film productions, press photography, and web development — from chatbots nominated for the Deutscher Radiopreis to pandemic information platforms and virtual trade fairs.

## Career

- **Audio Cloud & Innovation Manager at SWR** (Dec 2022 - Present)
- **Projektmitarbeiter at SWR** (Oct 2017 - Nov 2022)
- **Producer und Produktionsleiter at Knappe1A** (Jun 2015 - Sep 2017)
- **Volontariat at Knappe1A** (Jun 2013 - May 2015)
- **Volontariat at Baden TV GmbH** (Jun 2013 - May 2015)
In this role, I was directing daily live news broadcasts and live event transmissions, managing post-production for magazine shows and commercials, and developing the company website and event microsites. My time also included a three-month assignment in New York City, where I independently produced video content highlighting the unique connections between Baden and New York.

## Projects

- **ARD Eventhub** (Feb 2021 - Present)
Designed and built a system to distribute real-time (live) metadata for radio broadcasts. ARD Eventhub serves as the backbone of internal, event-based data sharing across ARD Sounds radio stations and ARD’s shared broadcast infrastructure.

Developed in-house at SWR Audio Lab, with the source code released as open source on GitHub.
- **ARD Sounds (prev. ARD Audiothek) on Voice Assistants** (Jan 2020 - Present)
Launched a direct integration with the ARD Audiothek on Amazon Alexa in January 2020, bringing all ARD radio livestreams into a single high-quality offering. The service reaches millions of monthly active users with steadily growing engagement ever since.

Not long after the service was also expanded to the Google Assistant platform.
- **ARD Radio Automation KI** (Mar 2026)
Developed and launched RAKI, an in-house, AI-assisted data processing and voice-output system designed to regionalize live broadcasts. Built via a SWR/WDR partnership to meet public-broadcaster security standards, the system automates localized audio production for eight ARD pop radio stations during joint evening and overnight programming.
- **SWR Radio App Relaunch (2020)** (May 2020)
Worked on the relaunch of SWR's radio app portfolio. Following market analysis and a tender process, our team developed the new app in close collaboration with Berlin-based agency tbo, working directly with existing users to reflect their needs. On the backend side, I built SWR Radiohub, a central system that consolidates all metadata and delivers it to the apps via highly scalable APIs.
- **SWR3 Elchbot** (May 2017 - Feb 2019)
Developed a chatbot for Facebook Messenger and swr3.de during the early, experimental days of conversational AI. The project was nominated for the German Radio Award (Deutscher Radiopreis) 2019 in the “Best Innovation” category. An exciting pioneering phase that delivered valuable learnings in chatbot design and user interaction.
